Anadyr Adventures has been operating tours in Prince William Sound
from Valdez since 1989. This year-round Valdez family operation
specializes in sharing their Alaska with you.
Valdez Glacier Hiking and Kayaking Historical Trip: Our
guides will transport you by van to the Valdez Glacial lake where we
begin our trip in inflatable double kayaks, paddling around large
and small icebergs to the face of the glacier. Here we start glacier
hiking while enjoying expansive views, crossing crevasses safely,
and passing glacial streams which have cut deep ravines in the ice
forming shimmering sky blue water pools on the glacier.
Our experienced and knowledgeable guides will conduct interpretive
glaciology discussions as well as share with you the many tales of
miners and fortune seekers who traversed across the glacier during
the Valdez Gold Rush Days of 1889. No experience is necessary. We
provide expert guides and all the gear necessary to safely explore
the glacier. Dress in layers; bring comfortable hiking shoes, rain
gear, lunch and water. Camera and binoculars are optional. Total
trip time: -7 Hours
Shoup Glacier Sea Kayaking and Hiking : Our most popular day
trip to date, Shoup Glacier, is unique to Prince William Sound
because it has two tidal basins. Abundant with sea-life, marine
birds, ducks, sea otters and harbor seals, Shoup Bay has the fastest
growing Kittiwake rookery in Prince William Sound with more than
20,000 birds and 6,000 nests. Great for hiking, kayaking near
icebergs, and observing harbor seals hauled out on ice floes, Shoup
Bay is the ideal trip for beginning kayakers and kids. Our
efficient and comfortable water taxi, The Bluff Watch, is used for
round trip transport to kayak departure point (40 minute boat ride
each way) Dress in layers, bring rain gear, lunch and water. Camera
and binoculars are optional things to bring. Total trip time -8
hours Actual time kayaking and hiking 6 hour
Glacier Island Day Tour: Join Anadyr Adventures for an awe-
inspiring day of sea kayaking along the rugged southern coast of
Glacier Island. Situated at the mouth of Columbia Bay (home of
Columbia Glacier, Prince William Sound's largest tidewater glacier),
Glacier Island offers the opportunity to paddle alongside abrupt and
dramatic shoreline usually indicative of lands exposed directly to
the open ocean, while staying within the sheltered waters of Prince
William Sound. We'll explore towering sea-caves, visit with tufted
and horned puffins and Stellar Sea Lions, and have a good chance of
seeing Orcas and Humpbacks. Dress in layers, bring rain gear, lunch.
And water. Cameras and binoculars are optional things to bring. We
use a water taxi for transport to kayak departure point (about one
hours of scenic ride each way). Due to the semi-exposed nature of
this trip, it is weather dependent, with a Columbia or Shoup Glacier
day trip as an alternative option. Total trip time - 10 hours.
Actual time kayaking and hiking is 6 hours
