One of the most popular rafting adventures in our area is on the
Tonsina River. This river provides class III to IV whitewater, in a
pristine wilderness setting. The river flows along the northern edge
of the Chugach Mountains, through the low spruce forests of the
Tonsina Valley. We often see eagles, ducks, moose, bear and several
varieties of salmon that travel up the Tonsina. The rapids of the
Tonsina contrast those of most Alaskan rivers. These rapids drop
through spruce-terraced valley bottoms, instead of the more typical
deep-cut canyons. We travel thirty five river miles, in
approximately six hours.
Trip departs daily 8:30 AM.
